In recent years, many brands and key figures within the fashion industry have taken up the call to actively drive change towards a more sustainable, responsible and ethical industry through a variety of initiatives both within their own day-to-day operations and their wider footprint, such as at events like fashion week.

And, at the upcoming Afterpay Australian Fashion Week (AAFW) 2021 — which will be held at Sydney’s Carriageworks from May 31 until June 4 — these important themes are set to play a central defining role in the event.

For the first time in AAFW history, iconic Italian liqueur brand, Disaronno, and contemporary Australian fashion brand, Romance Was Born, have partnered to bring ethical and responsible fashion to the forefront of their brands.

Romance Was Born’s headline runway show on day one of AAFW will focus on upcycling and reusing fabrics. The show is set to be an unforgettable experience given the label’s reputation for the innovative, original, and diverse range of mediums used in their shows, think: wallpaper, furniture, art installations, fashion shoots, theatre and pop performance costumes.

The show’s sponsor, Disaronno, will also focus on upcycling and reuse through its consumer competition and exclusive influencer party. Brand ambassador Danilo Migliorini’s unique Romance Was Born x Disaronno cocktail will be served in entirely upcycled glassware at AAFW as will every other elevated Disaronno cocktail served throughout fashion week. And, with Disaronno a favourite drink of the fashion set, expect to see a raft of fashion week Instagram posts featuring a Disaronno cocktail in upcycled glassware beside the latest runway show tickets.

Upcycling and reuse will also be a key part of the exclusive Disaronno AAFW Party. Attendees are invited to bring garments destined for landline to the soirée for Romance Was Born designers, Luke Sales and Anna Plunkett, to upcycle. Five of the repurposed outfits created by the designers will be donated to global not-for-profit organisation Dress for Success, which empowers women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, development tools and professional attire.

But that’s not all. The Disaronno x Romance Was Born partnership will also provide Australians the chance to win a Romance Was Born wardrobe plus other stellar prizes. And, in keeping with the theme of “giving back” there’s an opportunity to pay it forward by nominating a special someone you think deserves the prize even more than you.

Here’s how to enter: buy a bottle of Disaronno between May and August 2021 from a BWS or Dan Murphy’s and enter to win. You can increase your chance of winning with an additional entry by posting a picture of Instagram of a Disaronno cocktail and a garment you’ll be donating to Dress for Success with the hashtag #Disaronnomoment.

The Romance Was Born opening night runway show will be held on May 31, 2021 at 7.30pm at Carriageworks in Sydney. Buy tickets to the show, here. Find more AAFW runway shows and event tickets, here.
