Changemakers 2023

IMG is proud to announce its’ 2023 Changemakers, celebrating the new guard of creatives leveraging fashion as a cultural catalyst, IMG’s Changemakers program, now in it’s third year, will spotlight the work and careers of Asia Hassan, Basjia Almaan, Jackie Wu, James Parr, Miguel Urbina Tan, and Mike Nguyen. The 2023 Changemakers will participate in AAFW in various capacities including runway shows, content and programming. 

Jackie Wu is the Chinese Fashion Designer and Creative Director, who is presenting a multidisciplinary fashion and art label titled Wackie Ju. In this form, Jackie Wu creatively communicates though various mediums such as clothing, film, performance installation, publication, and visual execution as its practise. Coming from an IT background, the label is poetically millennium and technologically influenced. Wu utilises technology to showcase the spiritual aspects of Wackie Ju. It is a full embodiment from within — not just aesthetic based.

James Parr is a proud triathlete, model, actor, disability advocate and Wiradjuri man who shares his lived experiences to champion inclusion and representation in media and fashion. 

Asia Hassan is the founder, head designer and creative director of modest wear label, Asiyam. Rather than just catering to a modest dresser, Asia’s designs are universally sophisticated with the potential to be worn by anyone. She takes a minimalist approach to design, though her gowns and reinvented outerwear feature intricate pleating and fabric manipulation, with a splendour rivalling haute couture.

Miguel Urbina Tan is a fashion editor and stylist whose image-making extends to the covers of Vogue and pages of Harper’s Bazaar.

Basjia Almaan is a casting director, creative director, movement director and model. A queer black woman of African, Australian and Greek descent and member of the Australian ballroom community. Basjia creates art to empower and celebrate the black femme body and to show how powerful and sacred all bodies are. As a curve woman whose movement is about expressing her sexuality and sensuality she also shares her body as a visual protest on how all bigger bodies deserve to feel sexy and sensual.
